SAFER SIX offers vaccinations to prevent certain high risk infections. Sometimes we may do a blood test to confirm or investigate if you have immunity depending on the circumstance. These vaccines are generally covered by OHIP only under special circumstances (as noted below). If you do not meet the criteria below, you will be charged out of pocket for each vaccination.

 

- HPV (GARDASIL) VACCINE 

• 3 doses

• Prevents genital warts, cervical/anal cancer

• OHIP covered:

  • Men who have sex with men (MSM) under age 27

  • Transgender men/women under age 27 

  • High school age girls

  • Grade 9 boys

- HEPATITIS A

• 2 doses

• OHIP covered:

  • Men who have sex with men (MSM)

  • Intravenous (IV) drug users

  • Chronic liver disease

- HEPATITIS B

• 3 doses

• OHIP covered:

  • Men who have sex with men (MSM)

  • Household sexual contacts with chronic carriers

  • History of sexually transmitted infection (STI)

  • Intravenous (IV) drug users

  • Multiple sexual partners

  • Needle stick injury

- MENINGITIS

• 1 dose

• OHIP covered:

  • HIV positive individuals (up to age 55)

- PNEUMONIA

• 2 dose

• OHIP covered:

  • HIV positive individuals (50 years and older)
